Healthy Living Show was boldly launched in 2012 to fulfil a growing need in New Zealand for products and services that support healthy living – and was a great success.
The 2012 show attracted a high quality, affluent audience of 4544 visitors who spent an average of $180 each to produce a total visitor spend of $817,920 – an excellent result for a first year show. The event enabled 92 exhibitors to make significant new sales and successfully promote their brands to this niche market.
This excellent result has created a strong platform for the next show, which will be held from 1 to 3 November 2013 at ASB Showgrounds. The move will enable the show to expand hugely to include double the number of exhibitors, more show features, and plenty of parking.
Dona White, CEO of North Port Events, comments, “We learned a great deal through our first show, and the new venue means we can put these learnings into practice. For instance, we will be grouping exhibitors into zones (beauty, health, wellbeing and vitality), offering intimate workshop spaces, and targeting a larger audience. We are delighted to have a new sales manager on board too – Tania Greig, the founding publisher and editor of Fitness Life magazine.”
As the economy begins to recover from the Christchurch earthquake and the global financial crisis, the health and wellness tourism market within New Zealand is set to achieve positive growth. Interest in illness prevention and healthy living has continued to grow over the last couple of years as consumer access to health information and education has improved. Although price conscious, New Zealand consumers are increasingly interested in exploring alternative health areas, with demand for herbal and traditional products growing. Consumers are increasingly interested in preventing health problems rather than waiting for them to manifest themselves as illnesses.*
Dr Libby Weaver, one of the keynote speakers at the first Healthy Living Show, says she is seeing a significant increase in health awareness and people truly wanting to invest in their level of wellness, ability to enjoy life and sort out their health challenges such as PMT, IBS, thyroid dysfunction and emotional eating. "Many people have a wealth plan, but no health plan and they just put up with feeling lousy. You don't want it to take a health crisis to wake you up to make changes you know really needed to be made 20 years ago. I'm a huge advocate for encouraging people to prioritise what's really important, and health living is a vital pillar."
White continues, “With growing awareness of the positive effects of healthy living and a nationwide swell of interest in treating ourselves better, this is the year for the health and wellbeing industries to get its messages across to an audience proactively seeking out healthy solutions to their lifestyles. We are excited about what we are going to offer our exhibitors and visitors this year.”
