Kristina Andersen of Andersen Accountants Limited was recently interviewed about the Novopay problems by Newstalk ZB. Because of the widespread problems with Novopay our advice is that anyone who is paid by this company should do the following:

• Check that the amount of PAYE tax showing on your payslip is the amount that the IRD says should be deducted. You can check the correct amount on the IRD website.
• Log into your online account at IRD and check that the amount that the payslip says is being paid to the IRD is actually showing up as paid.

Either the amount shown as PAYE tax on your payslip, or the amount paid to IRD, or both, could be wrong. You should also make similar checks with regard to any other payments on your payslip. These items need to be rechecked from time to time.

If you are not paying enough tax (because Novopay is not deducting the right amount or it is failing to on pay the right amount to the IRD), you should talk to the IRD as you will owe a debt to them. Sooner is better than later as penalties and interest can become an issue. Please talk to us if you have any questions or if we can help.
