Whitireia research recognised in latest PBRF round

Whitireia has received a significant increase in the latest funding round from the Performance Based Research Fund (PBRF). Funding has more than doubled since the previous Quality Evaluation which occurred in 2006, giving the polytechnic over $1 million in research funding over the PBRF cycle.

“We are delighted with our allocation of research funding said Don Campbell, Chief Executive, Whitireia New Zealand.  “We have been successful in growing External Research Income (ERI), particularly in the health field, which has nearly tripled  the ERI component of the PBRF since 2011.”

 

“The new funding allocation reflects the quality of research produced by hard-working staff teaching on our degree programmes.  The growth in the ERI component is particularly pleasing as this research is undertaken in response to the interests and needs of the communities that Whitireia serves.    Our health research projects are often related to Pacific community needs, while the success of our Arts researchers also reflects our standing in creative industries.”

Quality Evaluation is the assessment of the research performance of staff at participating tertiary education organisations and is the major component of the PBRF.  The Tertiary Education Commission is responsible for the Quality Evaluation assessment and the allocation of funding.

Whitireia was one of 27 tertiary institutions that participated in the Quality Evaluation in 2012.
