It may be helpful to answer a few ‘frequently asked questions’ on the phenomenon that is Ooooby, or ‘Out Of Our Back Yards’ as, although most people have heard of them, they may not be aware of how Ooooby works or how they can avail themselves of the Ooooby service.

Q. How local and organic is Ooooby food?

A. Ooooby is all about local organic food which means it's as local and organic as we can find. That doesn’t mean that it’s all produced within 100kms. It means that we try to only buy local produce and find whatever is the best option and make it available to you. We would love to be able to say that all the food from Ooooby is produced within 10km from your door and that it is only from organic farmers and cottage suppliers, but the fact is we can’t. The reason is because there is simply not enough volume and variety of food that falls into such an ideal criteria….yet.

Here is how we do it. We use a matrix to rate food and we simply give priority to items that fall within the green zone. If it is very local then we are more lenient about how naturally it has been produced. If it is very natural then we are more lenient about how far we go to get it.

Q.  How do you get food from Backyards?

A. It’s magic! Did you know the Ooooby Community is already 4,000 strong? Together we grow totally yummy and zingingly fresh produce in our own backyards. This presently makes up a small fraction of the food in your box, however we have a crafty plan to kick start more backyard production.

Q. How does it work?

A. Every Thursday we contact our growers to let them know how many boxes we need to fill and we choose from a list of available products. We then send you a sneak peek at the products that we plan to include in your box. If there are any items you don’t want from the list, you can let us know what to leave out and we will replace it with something different. Once we have our final list together of what we need, we then place orders with our growers.

On Tuesday morning the food is sent to our packing hub. We pack your box and any extras you have ordered then deliver it to your door with a smile.
