An annual award that typically recognises export company employees, this year has a service provider among its nominees - for only the second time in its five year history.

Sharp Tudhope Lawyers’ Partner, Kylie van Heerden, was announced last week as one of four finalists selected for the BNZ Bay of Plenty ExportNZ Export Achievement award, an accolade that acknowledges significant contributions made to exporters by an individual.

As a specialist in commercial law, van Heerden has expertise across a vast range of business matters and has acted for various Bay of Plenty export companies, including; Comvita, Trimax, Bennett Mirrors and Glass, Distillerie Deinlein, Conveyor Industries, Kliptank and Professional Coolant Systems.

van Heerden sits on the ExportNZ BOP Executive Committee and, over the past five years, has presented a number of seminars to Export BOP members on export-related topics. She has also provided pro-bono advice to various Export BOP members that require legal expertise on industry matters.

Sharp Tudhope Lawyers’ General Manager, Peter Wilson, credits Kylie’s nomination to her commitment to assisting exporters in achieving their commercial and legal goals.

“Kylie is an acutely skilled lawyer and has a comprehensive understanding of the environment in which exporters operate - a fact that is often observed in the feedback we receive regarding her services,” says Wilson.

“The export industry is a difficult one to navigate, but Kylie works in such a capable and focused manner that she makes it seem deceptively easy.”

The winners of this year’s awards will be announced at the BNZ Bay of Plenty ExportNZ Awards ceremony next month (June 28) at a ‘Fairytale – Once Upon An Exporter’-themed dinner event hosted at the ASB Baypark Function Centre.

The four other awards are; ‘Emerging Exporter of the Year’ sponsored by United Travel Business, ‘Innovation in Export’ sponsored by Page Macrae Engineering, ‘Service to Export Community’, sponsored by ZESPRI International, ‘Exporter of the Year’ sponsored by Sharp Tudhope Lawyers.
