Artist and filmmaker Joseph Michael is renowned for his extraordinary time-lapse footage. He has worked with legendary directors Peter Jackson and Ridley Scott, but his first love is the landscapes of New Zealand.

Capturing 24 hours in the life of remote and epically beautiful vistas, his new exhibition will give Kiwis a chance to see their country from an entirely new perspective.

Michael’s new exhibition, Dark Cloud: White Light is previewing June 26 at Ironbank, Karangahape Rd in Auckland, followed by an exhibition from July 14 at Pataka Art + Museum in Porirua City.

Each evolving landscape plays out as a loop video that seamlessly condenses more than 20,000 individual photographs, filmed using the latest 2D and 3D technology. The images are displayed to breathtaking effect on LG’s revolutionary 84” Ultra High Definition TV.

Michael says, “I enjoy working with advanced technology, and LG are leading the way in the TV arena. With their 84” UDH TV, it’s almost as if the viewer is with me, watching a snowstorm come in above the Routeburn Track in Fiordland.”

Glen Chean, LG’s National Marketing Manager, says that the opportunity to collaborate with such an innovative artist was too good to pass up.

“LG are the pioneers in Ultra High Definition TV in New Zealand, having launched the 84” in 2012. Joseph’s works are shown with magnificent results on the 84” Ultra HD TV – the only TV in the country able to truly do his work justice. This is a unique opportunity to appreciate both the grandeur and the nuances of New Zealand’s dramatic and ever-changing scenery.”

LG Ultra HD TV feature LG’s Resolution Upscaler Plus, which improves lower resolution visual media content to offer greater detail for a high impact large screen viewing experience*.  Chean adds that LG plan on releasing 55” and 65” versions of the UHD TV, with the different sizes and lower price points making this incredible viewing experience available to more New Zealanders.
