Half of New Zealand couples not satisfied with their sex life

With the shortest day of the year fast approaching on Friday 21 June, New Zealanders could be forgiven for suffering from a case of the mid-winter blues.

Research from leading sexual wellbeing brand Durex has found that 75% of New Zealanders believe sex is beneficial for overall health and wellbeing, but that half of Kiwis are not satisfied with their sex life. So this year, to help lift the mood of the nation, Durex is calling on couples to take a fresh perspective on the shortest day and think of it instead as the longest night, and a great opportunity to spend a romantic night in with your special someone.

“The Durex Longest Night is like a mid-winter Valentine’s Day, but with less pressure and more pleasure,” says Nicola Nashed from Durex New Zealand.

“We’re encouraging Kiwi couples to come together for the ultimate date night in, with more time than any other night of the year for couples to spend together. We know that just over 60% of Kiwis are currently in a relationship. Of those, the average time they’ve been together is 17 years, so perhaps it is time to spice things up a bit!”

Only half of New Zealanders are having sex as often as they’d like and (not surprisingly), men are slightly less happy with their frequency of sex compared to women.

“At Durex we think that most people are looking for more ways to enjoy time together, they just may not necessarily make it a priority. Given this, the Longest Night is the best excuse to stay in under the covers and get cosy,” says Nashed.
