One community’s spirit and enthusiasm for its favourite local, The Flying Moa, has borne another successful fundraising effort for the St John Northern Region.

In honour of Bastille Day, The Flying Moa pub in Mt Wellington held its fifth annual Le Long Dejeuner, Friday 12 July, with all proceeds raised going to the St John Northern region.

Le Long Dejeuner has become a must attend social event on everyone’s calendar – with this years’ attendance topping a record breaking 166 people. The afternoon included six courses of fine French food matched with New Zealand’s best beer.

Hosted by ex-All Black Ian Jones, the event also included a raffle and silent auction, with prizes donated by Panasonic, Heritage Hotels New Zealand and Sky City.

Lance Campbell, Director of The Flying Moa is pleased to be involved with such a great organisation. “St John is an organisation that everyone needs, and with them being just around the corner, the Mt Wellington community loves to get behind them.”

Head Chef Vinu Pillai created the French inspired menu, which was matched perfectly to a range of specially selected Monteith’s craft beers.

This years’ Le Long Dejeuner saw $9,000 raised - enough for a FR3 Heartstart Defibrillator and a Ferno Scoop Poly Stretcher – both essential pieces of equipment for St John.

St John District Operations Manager, John Takeri is grateful to The Flying Moa for their ongoing support. “The funds raised enable us to purchase valuable and life-saving equipment including the FR3 Defibrillator, which shocks the heart after cardiac arrest and continues to monitor it until it’s in a stable condition” says Mr Takeri.
