45yo man dead after car crash collision with power pole

A man is dead after his car collided with a power pole south of Opunake.

Inspector Chris Tate, of police central communications, said emergency services were called to State Highway 45 at Pihama just after 3pm.

A 45-year-old man was dead at the scene. There was no one else in the car with him.

Traffic was being diverted along Watino Rd while the crash scene was cleared, Mr Tate said.

The Police Serious Crash Unit was investigating.
