Willowridge Wanakafest organisers have announced they will be taking over town for a breathtaking finale of the Urban Downhill mountain biking race this Saturday 26 October.

The race, which starts at Lismore Park at 5pm, has an exciting new finish that involves riders coming through Opium nightclub, off the balcony and onto a truck before riding down a ramp to Ardmore Street below. Then riders are sent through the Bullock Bar bottle store to the finish line out back.

“We really wanted to give festival goers an exciting spectacle this year – and we know this course and its finish are going to be a lot of fun for the riders themselves,” said event organiser Iona Sanders.

“And it’s not just the downhill mountain bikers that will be having all the fun! Anyone over the age of 10, and brave enough, can make a three story leap to a giant inflatable airbag below,” she said.

The Airbag will be behind the Bullock Bar from 2pm on Saturday with jumps costing $8 and all proceeds going to the Wanakafest Trust.

Willowridge Wanakafest kicks off this Thursday 24 October with Passion for Fashion. Top musical acts, including Don McGlashan and Christchurch’s 1 Drop Nation, the Lake Wanaka Wine and Food Festival and other family activities will be held at Pembroke Park and around Wanaka during the long weekend.

Those attending from Queenstown and Cromwell can get a special return bus deal on Saturday 26 October. Phone Central Motorways on 0800 487 488 to book.
