Kiwis celebrating Christmas as one of the most charitable nations in the world.

 

New Zealanders are in the top 5 most charitable nations in the world. According to the World Giving Index (WGI) New Zealand and Australia are among the most charitable nations and 68% of Kiwis are likely to help out a stranger*. Localist.co.nz is celebrating this with their ‘Local Love Project’ in the lead up to Christmas.

“Localist is all about helping people find the best of any local area. We love the idea that Kiwis are likely to help out strangers as it’s what we’re all about…using the power of personal recommendations to help other people find the best local spots. All the lists on Localist are created by local experts who love where they live and want to share their knowledge,” says Localist chief executive Christina Domecq.

The ‘Local Love Project’ invites Kiwis to decide whether they want to give or receive. To enter, people register on www.localist.co.nz/p/local-love-project, decide if they want to love their locals or keep the cash and then write a list about what they love in their area. Each week one business from a list will be chosen to shout their customers to the value of $1,000, care of the person who nominated them. Another cash prize of $1,000 will be given to entrants who have decided to keep the cash.

“In a way, this is like a Christmas social experiment to celebrate our giving nature, we want to see how many people will keep their prizes or help out a stranger by choosing the local love option and we’ll know the answer in the next few weeks,” says Christina Domecq.
