Wellington celebrates some Mexican local love at La Boca Loca

100 lucky locals are receiving a free shout from Localist.co.nz thanks to the kindness of a Wellington resident named Miriam Ramos. The first 100 people who get down to La Boca Loca, 19 Park Road, Miramar Wellington on Thursday at 12pm, will receive one of their famous tacos on the house.

Miriam Ramos chose to love the locals as part of the Local Love Project being run by online hub Localist.co.nz. New Zealanders are in the top 5 most charitable nations in the world and according to the World Giving Index (WGI), 68% of Kiwis are likely to help out a stranger*. The Local Love Project invites Kiwis to decide whether they want to give or receive. To enter, people register on Localist.co.nz, decide if they want to love their locals or keep the cash and then write a list about what they love in their area. Each week one business from a list will be chosen to shout their customers to the value of $1,000, care of the person who nominated them. Another prize of $1,000 will be given to entrants who have decided to keep the cash.

Marianne Elliott, co-owner of La Boca Loca says, “We love that Miriam loved and listed La Boca Loca on Localist in her 'Where to get your Mexican fix' list and chose to give. Her generousity means that we can shout 100 people, thanks to Localist. Our tacos are one of the most popular things on the menu and we're gearing up to make 100 for the first 100 people through the door."

Localist chief executive Christina Domecq says, “Localist is all about helping people find the best of any local area, we love the idea that Kiwis are likely to help out strangers as it’s what we’re all about…using the power of personal recommendations to help other people find the best local spots. All the lists on Localist are created by local experts like Miriam who love places where they live and want to share their knowledge.”

“In a way, this is like a Christmas social experiment to celebrate Kiwis giving nature. We’re looking forward to seeing how many people help out a stranger by choosing the local love option,” says Domecq.
