Gold accreditation for Canterbury Museum

Canterbury Museum is celebrating with news that it is the first organisation in New Zealand and Australia to be awarded Gold Accreditation through Investors in People.

For an organisation to gain accreditation to the Investors in People Standard demonstrates that good practice exists in the way an organisation leads and develops its people. To gain the highest award of Gold status demonstrates that best practice sits at the heart of the organisation. That means an organisation is not only committed to developing a high performance workplace but actually delivers on that commitment.

Stuart Burgess, Managing Director of Investors in People in New Zealand explained that Canterbury Museum gained its Gold status by having a clear vision and strategy supported by a high performing team that is actively involved in all aspects of service delivery.

“Good examples were provided of having effective leaders and being innovative, flexible, socially responsible and focused on the task at hand but with a keen eye to the future. The people at the Museum have responded by being highly engaged, supportive of continuous improvement and passionate about the future,” he says.

Canterbury Museum Director, Anthony Wright, says the Gold award is testament to the dedication and commitment of his team.

“To be awarded Gold is an incredible achievement,” he says. “We’ve worked really hard since the earthquakes to reopen the Museum, present exciting new exhibitions, build and open Quake City and partner in Red Zone and Rebuild bus tours. This is a significant milestone not just for Canterbury Museum but also for the communities of Christchurch who can rest assured with the knowledge that their precious taonga are managed, protected and made available by a unified, professional team.”
