QUEENSTOWN

No doubt most pizza delivery people can recount an unusual delivery story or two, but Queenstown Domino’s Pizza store manager Hardeep Singh’s delivery might just take the cake – or the pizza!

To celebrate the opening of Domino’s 600th store in Queenstown, New Zealand’s adventure tourism capital, the company has achieved a world first – a pizza delivered by bungy. Scott Bush, Domino’s New Zealand General Manager says he couldn’t think of a better way to mark the significant store opening than a bungy pizza delivery.

“We wanted to kick off the opening of the Queenstown store by doing something that paid homage to the region’s daredevil ethos and that would demonstrate how excited we are to have opened our 600th store in this wonderful region.”

Queenstown Lakes District Mayor Vanessa van Uden said the opening of a Domino’s Pizza outlet in Queenstown was a sign of positive economic growth. “As well as providing another element of consumer choice for visitors and locals, Domino’s is creating 20 new jobs, which is a welcome addition to the local job market.”

The adventurous delivery took place at the AJ Hackett Kawarau Bridge Bungy on December 10 and saw Queenstown Domino’s 24 year old store manager Hardeep Singh take his inaugural bungy plunge, deftly delivering a pizza to a group of cheering tourists waiting in a jetboat below.

Singh said it was certainly the most unique delivery he has ever made in his four years with Domino’s.

“I started my Domino’s career as a delivery driver in Domino’s Queen Street store in Auckland city, but I never expected to be asked to do this sort of delivery during my career. This bungy delivery was a real challenge and I was so excited by the opportunity to be involved,” he says.

Singh moved from Auckland to Queenstown to manage the Domino’s store and had only managed to get a little mountain hiking in since arriving in the tourist town.

“I absolutely love Queenstown so far – it is such an exciting place for activities. As I am new here, this was my first chance at doing something that would really get the adrenalin pumping. A bungy jump was the ideal way to kick start life in my new hometown and what an absolute blast it was! Domino’s customers are always happy to see us deliver a pizza, but that’s one delivery those tourists won’t forget.”

Domino’s Pizza Enterprises Limited was Australia’s first publicly-listed pizza company and is a master franchisor for the Domino’s Pizza brand in Australia, New Zealand, France, Belgium, The Netherlands and Japan. Domino’s and its franchisees have more than 1,200 stores across six countries, employing more than 21,000 part-time and full-time staff and making more than 60 million pizzas each year.
