TARANAKI

Local rider Micheal Torckler is very keen to make his assault on the Tenix Taranaki Cycle Challenge a winning ride. The Awe sponsored Premier race is one scalp that Torckler hasn’t yet owned. Fresh from a solid 3rd placing in the recent 3 day Hastings Hub Torckler says:

“I am looking forward to the race, I've been feeling good and training well after a nice off season, I have plenty of motivation to try and win...I’ll  be getting married 2 days later up in Hamilton is one, but also I've never won a RTM race so this would be a great time to do that and it would be a great before heading back to the states for my international season.”

Torckler won’t however have it all his own way as brother in law Josh Page who was the overall winner in the Hub Tour may have other ideas, as will promising young New Zealand Track rider Hamish Schrewers who is in Mexico at the moment racing on the track for New Zealand and will return with a lot of speed in his legs.

In order to pick up the $1000.00 first place chq he will also have to overcome a bevy of local and visiting riders. He will however have local knowledge and says:

“ The course is deceivingly tough, if you’re not having a good day it will leave you exposed and suffering, having the hometown knowledge will certainly help and I will use that.

The AWE  Premier or Elite race will start from the New Plymouth TSB Stadium at 11.00am  with an expected finish at the same venue between 2.35 to 3.00pm.

The expected recreational field of 1200 + riders will start at 7.30am before the start of the Premier race.
