ACG Strathallan student, Eric Jou, may just be the happiest 18-year-old in New Zealand. At 7pm on Friday night he downloaded his CIE results to find two As and one A*(over 90%) – with a perfect score of 100 per cent – meaning his dream of entrance into Cambridge University in the UK to study medicine has just become a reality. What's even more amazing is that the 100% grade was in Further Maths, renowned as one of the most difficult Cambridge exam subjects of all.

His principal Robin Kirkham is delighted for him, although not altogether surprised as Eric had already gained an A* in A level in Maths, Chemistry and Physics a year ahead of himself last year. Because of this, last year he received the prestigious award for best results across three Cambridge International A levels, along with a Top in New Zealand Award for A Level  Maths. Eric also achieved A grades for AS English Literature and AS Biology and an A* in A level Biology, having only studied the course for a single semester.

"I'm beyond elated to get in” says Eric. “This is the first step of my life towards the career of a doctor in a top world class educational centre. It's  great to know the hard work of doing seven A levels as opposed to the usual three or four has paid off.”

Eric's parents are both doctors, and Eric has spent a lot of time in their hospitals. "I saw how doctors successfully treated patients and the smile on both the doctors’ and patients’ faces when they do.

“Eric has created the most wonderful opportunities for himself," says Kirkham. "He is a highly intelligent and driven young man, but also so much more than that. He is deeply caring and a great team player. During his holidays he volunteered as a guide in a Taiwanese hospital and was a key member of ACG Strathallan’s badminton team  - a mentor to the school’s less experienced players. He will make an excellent doctor. I would be happy to put my life in his hands – once he is trained!"

Other outstanding ACG stories
Wei Wu – from ACG Senior College with three A*s at A level to add to the three A*s at A level he achieved in 2012 as a Year 12 student to make a total of 6 A* at A Level.

Annie Zhou – ACG Parnell College four A* at A level

Harshith Kondakindi – ACG Parnell  four A*s at IGCSE  - this is of particular note as he is an Aspire Scholarship student, who gained attendance at private school as part of the government’s scheme (possibly couldn't have done it without the scheme)

The ACG group as a whole had another outstanding year with a 100% pass rate at A Level, 44% of those scoring an A or better.
