FMX Event Rides High for Second Time at The Palms Shopping Centre

This March, The Palms’ Arena car park will be transformed into a motocross enthusiast’s dream for a second consecutive year. This anticipated event gives locals a rare chance to enjoy an adrenalin-filled display, worthy of Nitro Circus fame, in close proximity.

Following the success of The Palms’ inaugural 2013 FMX event, it was a no brainer for event organizer, Rob “TURBO” Turner and The Palms to team up for round two of an event that drew in upwards of 2,000 spectators. With a combination of both Kiwi and Australian riders headlining the event, it promises to be entertaining for all Cantabrians – existing FMX fan or not.

This year’s FMX event will see three separate displays at staged times throughout the evening of Saturday, 8 March, each with a different audience in mind. The night’s entertainment will kick start with a display aimed at younger children and their families at 5:30pm. The second round will begin at 7:30pm, with a slightly older target audience in mind. And lastly at 9:30pm, the third and final event of the evening, will be a display for true motocross enthusiasts to see some of the best, and most daring, tricks and skills to hit the ramp.

The FMX event is free for all onlookers. There will be a raffle on the day with some great prizes including a pit bike valued at up to $1,200, vouchers to spend at The Palms, and a helmet signed by the evening’s talented riders. Cost to enter the raffle is $10 per ticket and can be purchased on the evening.

The motocross ramp is set to be assembled during the afternoon of March 8, 2014 to ensure onlookers and shoppers are a part of the whole process.

Organizer and motocross enthusiast Rob “TURBO” Turner is excited to have taken over the reigns of this great project for 2014. With more time to prepare, Rob thinks this year’s event is going to be even better than the last.

“Motocross is one of my passions - I love everything about it! We’ve got a great line-up of fantastic riders this year, and I can’t wait to see how The Palms shoppers respond to some of the tricks these guys can do. We’re always looking to push the boundaries of where we can host motocross events, and I think The Palms’ Arena car park is still one of my favourite venues!”

Debby Chiplin, Marketing Manager at The Palms, is equally as excited to be playing host to the event for its second year, and is anticipating a larger turn out this year.
