Roger Sowry, Chair of the Council of WelTec and Whitireia today announced the appointment of Antony Royal to the institutions’ governing body.  “I am very pleased to announce Antony’s appointment and delighted he has accepted this new role,” says Mr Sowry.

“The combined Council of Whitireia and WelTec leads vocational tertiary education provision across the Wellington region.  Antony’s broad and specific skills and many involvements in the community sit well with the Council’s combined view and oversight of two large institutions - WelTec and Whitireia.  His background in the ICT industry will be invaluable as we strive to make Wellington the destination of choice for domestic and international students,” says Mr Sowry.

Antony holds a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Auckland University, has spent many years in the ICT industry and currently holds a number of governance positions including, director of 2 Degrees Mobile Ltd, director of Hautaki Ltd, Trustee of Te Huarahi Tika Trust, and Trustee on Ngāti Tamaterā Post Settlement Governance Entity.

He also chairs Te Mana o Kupe Trust, which was recently established to support the cluster of 13 schools in Porirua East whose focus is to deliver greater educational achievement by engaging tamariki, teachers and whanau through the use of technology.

Previous roles have included Global Infrastructure Manager and Web Initiatives Manager for the NZ Dairy Board (Fonterra), implementation of Financial Management Systems for a number different Government Departments, and positions on a number of advisory boards. Antony has been involved in many projects that involve technology and better educational outcomes, and has worked on several projects funded by the Tertiary Education Commission.
