“Today I am announcing that I have decided to conclude my resignation notice period effective from today.

“I announced my resignation four months ago, acknowledging that after eight years in this extremely challenging and high profile role, it was time to do something different. I also said it was time for the organization to have new and fresh leadership.

“Since my resignation, events had made it inappropriate to stay in the role of a caretaker CEO.

“Recent events have led to a deterioration of confidence in the organization, and its quality of care delivery. It is my duty to take accountability. It is inappropriate for me to continue in the role.

“ I leave the role feeling privileged to have been able to assist in a number of areas including the establishment of 7 Primary Health Organizations which are already making a real impact in their communities.

“While I feel great pride in having overseen the building of the Kapiti Health Centre, Keneperu and the Newtown hospital (to date) on time and on budget, I have learned valuable professional lessons.

“I leave after 33 years working in healthcare, starting as a nurse, and spending the past 17 years as a CEO. I will be taking up other employment in 2008, and will commence studying for a law degree.

“Whilst there is criticism of the Health system, which we always must work to continually improve, I am incredibly proud of all our staff and what they achieve every day in providing services for our community. I am grateful as always for their commitment to patients.

“I will not be commenting any further on this matter”
