CANTERBURY

As the days get shorter and the nights get longer; the mornings frosty and the evenings dark, it’s a sad truth that summer has passed. However, for many, there is one silver lining to the changing of the seasons – staple wardrobe pieces that only a cold winter can bring!

From 6:00pm – 9:00pm on Thursday 8 May, 2014, The Palms will give shoppers the chance to delight in the best the winter months have to offer, with its Fall for Winter Showcase. Addressing the change in climate, The Palms’ fashion retailers are pleased to see the return of favourite winter layers, which turn a cold Canterbury winter day into a chance to embrace the chilly season’s latest fashions.

The Fall for Winter Showcase will consist of various activities, including four fashion pods stationed throughout the shopping centre. Models will be dressed in the season’s latest looks, with items from the centre’s fashion retailers, at each of the pods. Seasoned stylist Becks Mason of Style4U will be on-hand during the evening to give local women advice on the upcoming trends and provide guidance and understanding of the best looks for their body type.

While fashion can make winter exciting, so too does good winter-warming food and beverages. The evening will also consist of an in-centre crockpot cooking demonstration and a Nespresso demonstration hosted by Noel Leeming between 6pm – 9pm. Cocopelli will also be displaying their cocktail and mocktail making skills outside Kmart between 6pm – 9pm.

This event is not without fantastic competitions for the attendees to take part in. If shoppers spend $50 in-centre between 21 April and 8 May, they will be eligible to go into the draw to win a first prize of Michael Hill earrings worth more than $1199 or a second prize of a $1,000 travel voucher. Winners will be drawn on the evening at 8:45pm, and must be present to claim their prize. The Edge radio station will also be at the centre handing out bags of candy and entry forms for the evening’s additional competitions.

The new season presents women with the chance to have a good wardrobe clean-out, and The Palms has partnered with Dress for Success Christchurch to encourage local women to hand unwanted clothing to a worthy cause. A collection point will be stationed in-centre during the late-night event, where attendees can drop off previously-loved, and appropriate corporate attire. This clothing, as well as accessories and suitable grooming advice, will then be passed on to Canterbury women attempting to re-enter the workforce.

Debby Chiplin, Marketing Manager at The Palms, says a Canterbury winter is magical and should be celebrated.

“It’s great to be able to tie this fashion event in with Dress for Success Christchurch, which does great things for young women looking to begin their corporate career, or mums re-entering the workforce. And, we love seeing the women of our region come together with friends to enjoy each other’s company and I think this year will be made that much sweeter with attendees being given the opportunity to help out their fellow Cantabrians with clothing donations.

“This year it’s all about the things that make a Canterbury winter memorable, and we’ve got some great in-centre demonstrations planned in order to get local women as Winter-ready as possible!”
