BAY OF PLENTY

Anyone meeting Bay of Polytechnic chef Aidan Galloway knows he is completely devoted to quality fresh food. What they may not know is that his partner, Casey Hume, is equally passionate and, between them both, have launched a brand new business, the Real Foodie.

Bringing delicious gourmet meals (catering to gluten free/lactose free and low carbohydrate diets), freshly prepared from only the best quality local ingredients, to Bay of Plenty locals is a dream come true for the talented pair.

Casey, an internationally experienced Personal Trainer and Nutritionist, is currently spending a lot of her time with elite sportsmen and women showing them the benefits of good nutrition. She sees the delivery of the fresh meals as a natural extension of this.

“I often see poor nutrition impacting performance of not just athletes but ordinary men and women too. It was important to me that Real Foodie delivered not just delicious meals but that the meals were also nutritionally balanced.”

Chef Aidan agrees. Having presented meals to some of the world’s most discerning diners (including Sir Richard Branson and Prince Albert of Monaco), Aidan brings a wealth of experience to the team as Co-founder and Head Chef.

“In a time-poor society we consistently see lots of ready-prepared poor quality meals available,” says Aidan. “We wanted to do something far better than that.”

Looking at the Real Foodie menu, the pair have achieved that and more. Just this week; a mouth-watering array of reasonably priced meals includes Thai Green Chicken & Vegetable Curry, Lemon Thyme Crusted Salmon Fillet and Braised NZ Lamb Shoulder with Cab Merlot Jus, Real Foodie is sure to be a hit with Bay of Plenty customers.

Some of those customers recently included a group of international rugby players that Casey has been working with through the Inside Running Academy based in Mount Maunganui and directed by the Strength and Conditioning Coach of the All Blacks, Nicolas Gill. Twenty-one eager players attended a cooking class/Master Chef competition at the Polytechnic delivered by Aidan and Casey showing that nutritious and delicious meals were achievable quickly and easily.

“It was a bit of a break-through,” laughs Casey. “To hear me rabbit on about the importance of nutrition is one thing but for the players to actually see that it’s not too onerous is completely another. For some of them it was the first time they’d tried to cook the meals and they were pleasantly surprised at how easy and delicious the meals were.”
