New clinical guidelines stress that the rise in eyelid dermatitis can be combated by supplementing the skin’s natural barrier function, according to Oasis Beauty, New Zealand’s leading expert in sensitive skin products and the makers of Rhino Repair.

Rhino Repair creator, Stephanie Evans says new guidelines of care for the management of atopic dermatitis, published by the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology  confirm that the application of moisturisers such as Rhino Repair, which is designed for sensitive skin, increases hydra¬tion.  A number of clinical trials have shown that they lessen the symptoms and signs of atopic dermatitis including pruritus, erythema, fissuring, and lichenification.

She adds: `The comprehensive research behind these guidelines shows that this type of natural remedy can give some reduction in inflammation and severity, as well as decrease the amount of prescription anti-inflammatory treatments required for disease con¬trol. The new guidelines point out that something like Rhino Repair can be the main primary treatment for mild disease and should be part of the regimen for moderate and severe disease. They are also an important compo¬nent of maintenance treatment and prevention of flares.’

Dr Kenneth Wong a Dermatologist from the Skin Institute, comments, ‘Eyelid dermatitis can be the result of eczema, allergy or irritation. It is very common in people with sensitive skin and results from a breach in the skin’s water-proof barrier. This defect makes the skin more susceptible to irritation. Therefore maintaining the barrier function is important in preventing eyelid dermatitis.’

According to another piece of research published late last year , Evans points out, part of the reason for the increase in eyelid dermatitis is a rise in younger women reporting sensitisation to specific allergens, particularly from cosmetic and skin care products. The thinness of the skin around the eyes may facilitate allergen penetration, making this area particularly susceptible to sensitisation.

Rhino Repair is a powerful, natural healing remedy formulated for the whole family, with 12 active ingredients, which will soothe a number of skin complaints. It is available at the Skin Institute and other outlets as well as online from Oasis Beauty.

The Skin Institute was established in 1994 as a specialist centre focusing on all aspects of clinical dermatology, cosmetic medicine and skin cancer. It is now a multi-disciplinary specialist centre with 16 clinics nationwide and an expanded service offering that includes veins and cosmetic surgery.
