OBR Merino wool jersey is soft, fine and non-itchy and provides warmth without weight, and it is a well-known fact that only New Zealand merino has these qualities.  Most sheep eat grass in the paddocks we see everywhere, but the Merino live in the highlands of Central Otago in severe conditions. Their fleece is grown to sustain the heat of the summer and the freezing conditions of winter. All Merino is not created equal and New Zealand made Merino is undoubtedly the best in the world, being the weight of a good tee shirt, but really warm.

As quoted in the September 2011 issue of the Australian Vogue, the master of style, Giorgio Armani talked about " A new kind of wool that is Eco sustainable, soft beyond compare and has some extraordinary properties. Thanks to the fineness and extremely high quality fibre as developed by New Zealand producers it has become the material par excellence for the luxury ready to wear industry."

Merino is a natural, renewable fibre that is warm without weight, odour resistant and durable, and Merino fabric has excellent wrinkle recovery, resists soiling, is recyclable and is bio degradable. The fibre comes from sheep that have grazed on pasture “free range” year round, grown by farmers who are stewards of their flocks and the land. These farmers are careful to protect the welfare of their sheep, and ensure best land management practices are used for preservation for future generations, together with the renewed growth or the highest performing, soft natural Merino fibres.

The core of a Merino fibre is hydrophilic (water retaining), and is breathable, moving perspiration away from the skin so that the wearer feels cool, comfortable and dry. The breathability of the fabric brings about temperature changes known as “heat absorption”. When there is a rise in humidity in the micro climate between the skin and the Merino fabric, moisture vapour is absorbed and then transported and released into the air outside the garment, creating a noticeable drop in temperature for the wearer. Equally, when there is a rise in temperature, the Merino fabric will absorb moisture vapour from the air, binding it and creating a drop on temperature next to skin. This, together with the natural crimp and resilience of Merino fibres which trap air and conduct heat, make Merino garments warm and comfortable to wear.

OBR Merino garments make great travelling companions as they don’t crush when worn and are good to wear in most climates. They are very comfortable because they have natural stretch within the fabric which means they move with your body. You can travel long distances and at the end of your journey still feel comfortable, and look smart.
