Velca, the award winning ‘one stop’ Auckland health centre is situated in Howick, just down the motorway from the CBD, and their philosophy is to help their clients to achieve their goal of total wellness so they can operate at 110%. They offer a range of services to correct pain and see their clients down a road of better health and well-being.

To this end, they have once again this year won several prizes at the Howick Village Best Business Awards. Velca are grateful and proud to be part of these prestigious awards, where they were lucky enough to win the Best Service, Best use of Technology and Highly Commended Best Presentation, and Sophie received Highly Commended Best Employee. As they reported on their Facebook page, “It was awesome to be amongst other great business owners, and part of a great community like Howick, which is one of a kind. Thank you for all the congratulations and kind words; it is what keeps us striving to be better every year!”

Congratulations are also due to the Velca powerlifting crew who all competed in Christchurch for the Powerlifting Nationals 2014. Special mention must be made of Bruce Lee who came first in his category, winning the Gold and qualifying for the Oceania/Commonwealth Powerlifting in December.

Winter colds and flu continue to ‘bug’ us and we all want the best chance of fighting off those nasty winter bugs and surprisingly it is actually easier than we might think.  Superfoods are foods that provide people with benefits beyond that of normal nutrition. That is, they provide more than just energy, and vitamins and minerals for good health – they contain nutrients with extra health benefits or special nutrients such as antioxidants (which protect the body against damage from oxidative stress and disease). These foods can help people fight off winter colds and flu’s as well as keeping them looking and feeling their best at a time of year when it’s common to feel run down or unwell.  Velca’s nutritionist, Melissa, has a Bachelor degree in Nutritional medicine which allows her to understand what effects certain foods have within the body on a cellular level, and therefore enabling her to recommend specific nutrients and healthy food options to help restore the body’s own healing and detoxification capabilities

For anyone who is unsure about which of Velca’s services is best suited to help them get better, please ask us about their complimentary no charge check-ups by going to their website at http://www.velca.co.nz .
