Summer - is it here yet? Don’t worry, let’s do it anyway. Heat, sun, surf and the tans – just some of the elements which represent the quintessential New Zealand summer. The warmer season also means there are so many more places, events and occasions at which to be seen. Rodney Wayne presents their latest campaign that embodies everything that summer means to them. The summer 15 campaign ‘Do Summer’ mixes a nod to the ‘70s with rave culture of the ‘90s.

The bright prints and bold colour that signal the intrepid metamorphosis of that 70s decade of ballads, pop and rock merge with a subtle nod to the playful and slightly androgynous ‘generation yes’ of the 90s. “Summer is the season to make a bold statement about who you are with your hair and play to the trends with a brand new look”, says Rodney Wayne Global Creative Director Richard Kavanagh. Sunrise and Shine, Dusk-oh, Honey Dipped, Twice the nice and Bourdin patrol all pay homage to the season with their distinctive individual look and feel.“ The smart way to go is with fabulous hair that can take you from the pool to the party and places in between. Our latest looks are designed to help you make the most of the season in individual style.” The Rodney Wayne ‘Do Summer’ 15 campaign has been driven by Kavanagh, with support from internationally acclaimed fashion photographer Steven Chee, and directed by top local creative Lachlan McPherson.

Sunrise and Shine. Inspired by the iconic copper shades of Annie Lennox and the playful rave culture of the early Nineties this modern take on summer’s siren shines in shades of copper gold and deeper true coppers. The halo technique of colouring offers dimension and movement and attracts the eye to highlight the best features.

Enhance the curl! As they say in the good ol’ US of A. Bigger is better. Take inspiration from soul sisters of the ‘70s and today. Donna Summer and Lorde have reminded us that curl is a beautiful thing. Be bold, be brave, be larger than life. Use colour to create dimension and movement reminiscent of the magical twilight hours of summer.

Embrace the sassy nature of Elvira Hancock, Tony Montana’s girlfriend in Scarface by cutting your hair to the length of the season as seen on the hottest fashion icons today. Keep it modern with a centre part and luxuriously effortless texture. For a subtle statement that’s right on trend go for honey-dipped ends to create dimension and movement in your hair.

This season’s must-have accessory for your hair is the braid. Herringbone, four strand, French, classic, they’re all featuring, and for the girl with the edge make it a cornrow (or two). Ask your stylist to blow-dry your hair for a luxurious result then add a scalp braid to one side for an asymmetric look that works day or night
Legendary fashion photographer Guy Bourdin had a unique way of capturing the beauty of women. And all his women had fabulous hair. Inspired by the hyper-real hairstyles of his women, this look will give you confidence, strength and femininity.
