In the most recent Consumer New Zealand ‘Car Reliability Survey, ŠKODA came out the top of the list in the ‘most satisfied drivers’ and ‘would buy again’ categories. As Consumer magazine reported, “ŠKODA owners are a satisfied bunch, with 95 percent of those who responded to a Consumer NZ car reliability survey saying they would buy the same make again.”

Once regarded as a laughing stock of European brands, the Czech car has had a major uplift in quality and popularity since being taken over by Volkswagen. People should not have been surprised to see it come so high on the list, but they definitely would not have been surprised to see so many Japanese makers there either. Consumer NZ asked thousands of drivers to rate vehicle reliability and if they'd buy the same car again. Ninety-five per cent of all Skoda drivers said they were "satisfied or very satisfied" with their cars' reliability, and 100 per cent of Toyota HiAce drivers said they'd buy again.

Luxury car owners were among the least happy with their vehicles. BMW, Land Rover, Jaguar and Jeep drivers gave their cars some of the worst feedback. Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Suzuki and Toyota drivers rated their cars highly. The study found used imports were slightly less reliable than "New Zealand new" used cars and owners of four-wheel-drive cars reported more problems than their two-wheel counterparts. Survey results also suggested diesel cars were slightly less reliable than petrol vehicles. Feedback indicated CVT (constant velocity) transmissions - a newer type of automatic - were more reliable than conventional ones.

In other news, cyclists along one of the most popular cycling routes in Auckland got a taste of a Tour de France style pit stop recently, courtesy of ŠKODA. As a long-time supporter of the world’s most prestigious road cycling event, ŠKODA gave local Saturday bike riders the opportunity to get their bikes polished and primed, while being refuelled by the ŠKODA support crew. There were many prizes to take away and the chance to win a new Octavia RS Liftback for a month.
