Treena Ruwhiu is already well known to many Rangi girls and families as she has been a senior and much respected member of the school’s English Faculty since arriving at Rangi in 2009.

As the newly appointed Director of Boarding, school Principal, Julie Moor says while Mrs Ruwhiu will be a big loss to the English Faculty, she and her young family will be a welcome and significant addition to the school boarding house.

“Treena is very experienced and passionate about working with young people. She is extremely well organised, consistent and fair, a superb listener and communicator, has a great sense of fun and is not afraid to try new things,” she says.

Mrs Ruwhiu will be living on site on Hewitt’s Road with her husband Jamie and two sons, Thomas and Sam and their dog. They will be moving into town from Kirwee, and have also lived in Amberley, so she brings with her an excellent knowledge of rural Canterbury.

“Fun, friendship and independence are three of the most fundamental things in girls’ lives, and at Rangi, we “know” girls, we “get” girls, and encourage and foster fun, friendship and independence every day,” Treena says.

Last year she was acting Deputy Principal on two occasions and over the summer break Treena was one of the staff members who accompanied a World Challenge group to Costa Rica and Nicaragua, having also been part of the first trip to Cambodia. Julie Moor says Treena has been very involved in school Volleyball and Football, and also ran a research project for Rangi Ruru looking at how the school could further develop the e-curriculum.

“I know she has a new found passion for running half marathons so her interests and skills are wide ranging and keep growing. We love her energy and positivity,” says Mrs Moor.
