BAY OF PLENTY

Orientation Week kicked off with a soggy start on Monday but the rest of the week is providing sunshine and a whole lot of fun at Bay of Plenty Polytechnic’s Windermere Campus.

Student Experience Coordinator Kirsten Crossan was all smiles as she helped strapped students into the human foozeball.

“O’Week is a great opportunity to have some fun outside the classroom, orientate yourself with campus and make new and lifelong friends.

“We have a wide cross section of students so I try to accommodate everyone in my planning. We also have three campuses to entertain so O’Week has stretched into O-Fortnight as we try to squeeze everyone in!”

One O’Week highlight is the annual Tug of War class challenge which the Certificate in Fitness class won – for the second year running. Other events include quiz night, human foozeball, live music, candy station, giveaways, Night Owl Cinema with Night Owl and Astrolabe, toilet racing, a cooking demo with celebrity chef Peter Blakeway, free breakfasts, lunches and ice creams (because nothing excites a student like free food!) and more!

“It’s the highlight of my year as Student Experience Coordinator, it’s great to see students on campus enjoying themselves and making new friends, everyone who has ever been a tertiary student will agree it’s these kinds of experiences they remember most fondly.”

The Polytechnic has an awesome line up of business and organisations who come back year after year to interact with students and offer great student deals and discounts. These include support by radio stations The Edge, flava, The Rock, Radio Hauraki and ZM, banks including ANZ, BNZ and Cooperative Bank, The Manic Room, NZ Blood Service, Family Planning, Revolution, The Naked Bus, Tauranga City Council, Electoral Office and Citizens Advice.  Plus giveaways kindly donated by Rye and Flying Burrito Brothers.

And not to mention the fabulous live music by the Polytechnic’s own Diploma in Music students who continue to wow staff and students with their talents every O’Week.
