It’s not quite a Christmas miracle, but finding a suitable replacement soloist for its upcoming Lion Foundation Celebrate Christmas concerts certainly has the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra feeling grateful!

Dunedin-based baritone Matthew Landreth will perform with the orchestra at its two concerts in Holy Trinity Cathedral in Parnell on Friday 14 December at 7.30pm and Sunday 16 December at 3pm. He replaces Australian baritone Nicholas Dinopoulos who unfortunately had to pull out of the concerts.

Matthew Landreth is a current PwC Dame Malvina Major Emerging Artist and appears courtesy of The NBR New Zealand Opera. He will join soprano Deborah Wai Kapohe, The Graduate Choir and conductor Ken Young to present a programme of classical works, including Christmas Tableau by the composer Joaquin Rodrigo, Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Christmas Carols, Adam’s Cantique de Noel and Mendelssohn’s Hark, the Herald Angels Sing!.

Tickets ($15 to $55) available from www.apo.co.nz or Ph 623 1052.
