"Search is substantially better at driving e-commerce traffic than any other digital channel, especially social" (Source: marketingcharts.com). FIRST, a leading online marketing agency located in Auckland, has just released a new industry report showing how visible cruise holiday providers are within Google’s search engine. Additionally, a consumer survey was carried out revealing that most Kiwis consider destination/ stops and price/offers as the most important factors in booking a cruise.

By utilising their bespoke metric called RBR (Rankings Based Reach) FIRST revealed that the cruise holiday online industry in New Zealand is dominated by P&O Cruises. The cruise holiday online market is highly competitive and bigger players are capturing the big proportion of the demand thanks to prominent organic and paid search presence.

Search trend data indicate a notable increase in the search volume for the search term 'river cruise' in New Zealand since December 2011 and has maintained a high search volume in the following years. This represents a big opportunity for natural search optimisation.  Popular search phrases are missing from most sites and in most cases very little is being done with organic search.

A data-driven and comprehensive digital strategy that integrates both organic and paid search would greatly help cruise holiday providers acquire new customers and drive online revenue.
