Given the scale of the damage caused by the devastating earthquake in Nepal, Allianz Global Assistance has set up a 24 hour crisis unit in its Paris and Brisbane operational centres to help travellers on site in Nepal and to support their families. Working closely with local authorities, Allianz Global Assistance has already sent a medical team to Kathmandu to reinforce aid on site and organise the repatriation of injured tourists.

A plane with medical staff on board was sent to Nepal to repatriate the first tourists back to their homes in New Zealand, Australia and across the world. Will Ashcroft, Head of sales at Allianz Global Assistance in New Zealand says, “We remain fully committed to this emergency operation to support travellers who are victims of the earthquake and their families.”

A few of the team at Worldcare Travel Insurance have trekked in Nepal, including Will who says “Nepal is an incredible country, with breath taking scenery. But the really special part of Nepal is its people. That’s why we want to try and give something back after the horrific earthquake”.

To help support the people of Nepal, Worldcare Travel Insurance New Zealand will donate $2 for every travel insurance policy sold for April, May and June 2015 to Unicef New Zealand. Additional donations can be made to: www.unicef.org.nz/nepal   .

Worldcare Travel Insurance understands that many customers like to trek, and may want to trek in the near future in remote and high locations.  It is important that people still visit Nepal in the aftermath as it is now, more than ever, that they will depend on tourism and the financial support it provides.

If you are looking to trek in amazing locations like Nepal, at altitudes over 2,500 meters, you need to phone Worldcare’s friendly call centre super stars on 0800 553 550. They just want to know where you’re trekking, and which travel company you are travelling with. They can then let you know if they can provide cover for your adventure.

If you are planning on any mountain climbing where you are using ropes, you’ll need to get specialist mountaineering insurance. Unfortunately, Worldcare Travel Insurance can’t provide cover for this. Your adventure travel company should be able to suggest some specialist insurers.

If you are unsure if you are covered due to a Safe Travel advisory, Worldcare recommend that you call them, or refer to the Policy Wording for more details at http://www.worldcare.co.nz . Worldcare wish you safe and happy travelling!
