The start times and ticket sales have been confirmed for the vital Asia/Oceania Group One Davis Cup tennis final as New Zealand take on India in Christchurch next month.

The Asia/Oceania Group One final has the big reward for the winner of taking part in the World Group playoffs against potential opponents such as the United States, Switzerland or Germany later in the year.

The tie against India will be held indoors at The Z Energy Wilding Park Tennis Centre, Christchurch 17-19 July and is the same venue where the home team beat Chinese Taipei in October last year.

The times for the tie are 11am start on Friday 17 July for the opening two singles, Saturday’s doubles match will commence at 2pm with the two reverse singles starting 2pm on Sunday 19 July. Tickets go on sale tomorrow from midday (Friday 5 June) at www.ticketek.co.nz

It will be a busy weekend in Christchurch with the All Blacks against Argentina Four Nations test on the Friday night meaning the opening singles match will start earlier than usual for a Davis Cup tie to make sure fans can see both sports in the same day.

Tennis NZ CEO Steve Johns says there’s plenty of expectation on the tennis being of a high standard and a vocal home crowd being right behind the New Zealand team..

“It’s great to get the match times confirmed and tickets now available. New Zealand’s top players are in fantastic form around the world and we know the Indian players are tough and highly ranked. It’s going to be a great Davis Cup tie and something people in Canterbury and New Zealand can look forward to. I’m sure plenty of fans will want to come along to a great weekend of sport in Christchurch.”

On three occasions India has made the final of Davis Cup. They currently build their team around veteran and tennis legend Leander Paes who has won eight Grand Slam doubles titles and been a finalist on eight occasions. Paes also has 55 ATP doubles titles to his credit, one of them being the Heineken Open doubles crown in Auckland in January.

India lead New Zealand 4-3 overall in head-to-head Davis Cup clashes.

The New Zealand team will be named early next week.

The New Zealand versus India Asia/Oceania Group One Round Two Finals tie will be held at the Z Energy Wilding Park Tennis Centre, Christchurch 17-19 July 2015. It is expected that a large number of tennis fans from around the country will head to Christchurch for the contest.
