Waikato Construction has been part of an exciting new foreshore restoration project in Auckland. The Hamilton-based construction company has been working with Fulton Hogan to construct the Onehunga Foreshore Restoration Project.
This project is transforming the Onehunga foreshore by creating parkland and beaches to provide long lasting public access to the Manukau Harbour. The seaside park will be around 750m long and extend 250m into the harbour at its widest point.
Onehunga's original beachfront esplanade was removed when the south-western motorway was built across Onehunga Bay in the 1970s, this restoration will give the community a new connection to the harbour.
The restored foreshore that the Waikato Construction team has been working on will be completed and open to the public soon after construction wraps up in October.
Waikato Construction have been involved with the project with constructing roading kerbs and channels for access roads, the car park, boat ramp, turning bay and rain gardens.
