Turners are auctioning a ‘One of Kind Car Perfect for a Rugby Fan’. If someone told you they wanted to get over $10,000 for a 1992 Toyota Corona that had done over 400,000 km, you’d tell them they were dreaming, right? But that’s exactly what Napier woman Megan Harris hopes to get when she sends her trusty sedan to online auction by Turners and Trade Me this week.

However, the car in question is more than your ordinary vehicle – it has the signatures of more than 200 All Blacks scrawled across its bodywork. And, the proceeds from the sale will go to the Child Cancer Foundation. Harris and her partner, bought the car at a charity auction, also for the Child Cancer Foundation, in 2011, and had a blast showing it off in Napier in 2011 when the city hosted two World Cup matches.

While they’ve enjoyed having the car, Harris says ahead of the Rugby World Cup it’s now time to pay it forward and donate the car back to charity. "We've been lucky enough not to have any health issues with our own children so we feel grateful for that and this is something we can do to help other people."

Previous owner, Aucklander Rikki Faint, started the mission of turning the Corona into an autograph book. He chalked up over 200 signatures, with Harris filling a few gaps by adding the signatures of John Kirwan, Taine Randell and Kieran Crowley.

The late Fred Allen, an All Black in the 1940s, is the oldest rugby legend to have signed the car and no All Blacks memorabilia would be complete without Richie McCaw, whose scrawl adores the bonnet, and Colin Meads’ signature has a special place on the petrol cap. Turners Napier Branch Manager, Phil Brenchley is adding to the fun, currently on a mission to get Zac Guildford to sign the Corona.

The car goes to auction today with a start price of $1,000.
