Designer Karl Lagerfeld once described luxury as ‘the ease of a t-shirt in a very expensive dress’.  It wouldn’t surprise me at all, therefore, to discover that one of the world’s most coveted fashion doyens has stayed at Paihia Beach Resort and Spa before, because his depiction of luxury describes exactly the thrill of holidaying there.

From the stunning earthy-toned ultra-chic suites and the plethora of sparkling swimming pools to the sumptuous fine dining restaurant and soothing spa annexe, this is a facility comfortable in its own skin…sophisticated, stylish and sexy, yet welcoming to all the family, down-to-earth and indulgent to the guests it considers extended whanau.

In other words, luxury that feels like home.  There’s a smile and an extra mile from every single staff member, the view over the Bay of Islands is nothing less than stunning from every angle, and the gentle Pacific Ocean breeze ruffles across your senses as you dine alfresco pool-side under a shady umbrella.

Do not miss the chance to tantalise your tastebuds at Provenir Restaurant, home to outstanding Head Chef Marcus Berndt and his unique blend of amazing top quality dishes that will quite literally knock your socks off (I haven’t stopped raving about the scampi served with a linen napkin but eaten with your fingers, and my husband still dreams of the all-day braised oxtail), or a sensual beauty treatment at La Spa Naturale with one of its top therapists.

It’d be easy to stay basking in sunshine on one of the private balconies, but Paihia Beach Resort and Spa is so well situated that it’s just as fun walking left towards historic Waitangi, right to Paihia township and the iconic ferry to Russell, or straight ahead for a cooling dip in the sparkling waters of Te Ti Beach with its children’s playground and family-friendly aquatic fun…and all just three or so hours’ drive from Auckland.  It’s luxury that feels comfy, warm and welcoming…New Zealand style.
