Rubio's New Online Gift Card Calculator to Help SME Businesses

As gift cards continue to trend as the gift of choice, New Zealand gift card and loyalty programme provider Rubio and subsidiary mygiftcard.co.nz have launched an online gift card calculator.
Created for retailers and service providers, the calculator enables them to quickly determine the feasibility of using gift cards. Important in particular for the SME’s of the industry, the information provided creates greater awareness for those looking to invest in or make changes to this product offering. By entering customers’ gift voucher or purchasing habits, the calculator approximates card costs and service fees giving the retailer an estimated return.
John-Paul Mclean, CEO of Rubio Ltd, encourages all retailers thinking of offering gift cards to try out the calculator as a way to determine their gift card needs.
“As far as we’re aware this is a first of its kind functionally. It is there to assist those retailers considering gift cards as a product offering or switching from paper vouchers,” says Mr Mclean.
“Gift vouchers and certificates are fast becoming a thing of the past, with plastic gift cards providing greater benefits for both the business and user. We are very excited that we can now provide a tool to assist retailers in that decision”.
Research carried out over the last few years has indicated plastic gift cards have a clear advantage over paper gift certificates showing an increase in sales of between 50% to 100%.
Consumer studies of gift card practice shows they usually either spend more, or a little less than, the amount on the card. The retailer generally retains any money left unspent on the card.
