This Valentine’s Day it’s all about doing what is good for our hearts. Botany Town Centre is encouraging people to get their hearts beating by participating in the eighth annual Summer Fun Run & Walk on Sunday 14 February.

Couples, parents, children and individuals of all ages and fitness abilities are welcome to enter the event, which aims to help locals have fun while supporting a worthy cause.

Not only is Botany Town Centre supporting happy, healthy hearts but full bellies this Valentine’s Day. Bellyful, an organisation supporting locals by delivering meals to families with new born or ill children, will receive $1 from each participant’s entry fee.

An ongoing supporter of Bellyful, Botany Town Centre senior marketing manager Desiree Clark says, “As the hub of the community, we are pleased to be able to support Bellyful. And, the Summer Fun Run and Walk is the perfect way for locals, including parents with young children to get outdoors and meet others in the neighbourhood. Mums and bubs in prams are big participants in this annual event, so it’s nice to be supporting Bellyful who give these mums and families an opportunity to have a support network.”

The walk and run is staged over two lengths, a 5km walk or run and a 10km walk or run. Participants can compete for first place or take their time and enjoy the stroll. Eight years on, the event continues to be popular, and many families return every year. Event organizer, De-arna Gardiner from First Tier Productions says, “We have a large volume of regular participants who take part in this event year-after-year and look forward to it, it’s become something of an annual tradition for local families too.”

The event begins at 9am and will start and finish at Botany Town Centre’s Town Square. All participants will have plenty of chances to win spot prizes, including a 50 inch high definition Panasonic television, Hoyts gift cards, Specsavers vouchers and various Macpac prizes.

Sponsors behind the event include Specsavers, Hoyts Cinemas, Panasonic, Macpac and MORE FM.

Entrance into the event costs $30 for the five kilometre run and walk, and $35 for the ten kilometre run and walk. Full details on the event can be found at www.runandwalk.co.nz

Participants are encouraged to register online, or at Botany Town Centre outside the opposite the Macpac store at designated times.
