Top Christchurch Girls’ School, Rangi Ruru has today confirmed that former Silver Fern and current Canterbury Tactix squad member Anna Thompson has been signed as head netball coach.

This comes on the back of news that two Rangi Ruru students, Bailey Chamberlain (Year 11) and Millie Knight (Year 10) have both made the NZ U16 Basketball team. The young Rangi athletes are two of only four South Islanders in the squad.

The twenty players will make up two teams which will each play in a tournament in Australia – one will play in the National Age-group tournament and the other will play in the National Club championships.   Bailey is from Christchurch and Millie is from Nelson.

Rangi Ruru’s Head of Sport, Jo Fogarty says 2016 has started with a very loud bang on the sporting front.

“The awesome line-up of professional expertise and support in our coaching staff makes it clear how serious we are about sporting achievement at Rangi Ruru,” she says. “We give our girls the very best support so that they can achieve the very best results they can. Just look at Bailey and Millie; having two girls from the same school in an NZ Rep team is phenomenal.”

Fogarty also points to news that the school has invested in sports coaching IT software, Sportscode Pro Review, which is used by a number of national and representative teams including the All Blacks and Silver Ferns. Aaron Ford will be the coach managing the roll out of this and he is available for comment.

Jo Fogarty pays credit to Rangi Ruru’s Assistant Director of Sport, Mandy Anderson, (recently named the new manager of the Netball Mainland National League team), who she says worked very hard to secure Anna Thompson as part of the school coaching team.

The new additions to the line-up of elite coaches at Rangi Ruru for 2016 are:

Netball Senior A – Anna Thompson, current Canterbury Tactix and former Silver Fern

Hockey 1st XI – Aaron Ford, former Canterbury Cats coach and former Canterbury representative player. Aaron is also managing the roll out of the new sports coaching IT software, Sportscode Pro Review.

Basketball – Darcy Rose, current Canterbury Wildcats player
