They dominated the oceans during WWI, a mirage of military ships painted in vibrant geometric shapes. Unsettling, confusing yet undeniably innovative, it was the birth of disruptive camouflage- ‘razzle dazzle’.

Winter 16 sees Deadly Ponies hone in on the notions of man-made camouflage and military cues to fashion their newest collection, Black Ocean. Drawing from the ‘razzle-dazzle’ colour palette, of Khaki, Wisteria, Ink, Barley and monochrome, they present a tactile, inventive and crafty collection that plays with tone-on-tone layers to illicit subtle surprise.

“The exploration of classic materials, kip, suede, Friesian and marble has allowed us to reinterpret nature’s camouflage,” says Liam Bowden. The luxurious Mr Fox and Friesian Mr Tuck directly reference the monochrome dazzle painting, whilst Mr Mini Penny Pouch and suede Porter Tote play with marble gildings.

Telling the story of Fall 2016 are the striking and talented Harry and Carter Were. The campaign was shot at Bethells Beach, where the natural textures and colours of the landscape, charmingly complemented Deadly Ponies’ striking collection.

Explore, discover and succumb to the razzle dazzle of winter.

Deadly Ponies was founded at a time when local leather manufacturers were closing their doors. This upheaval in the industry helped afford Liam the ability to bring his vision to life. Determined to reinvigorate leather manufacturing, he bought the old machinery and put together an in-house production team of highly talented and skilled leather craftsmen.

Ten years on this team has grown and evolved. The cornerstone of their production process is about adapting traditional manufacturing values and techniques to be flexible and resilient in an ever-changing, modern environment. They still proudly make the majority of their iconic handbags in their Auckland workroom, using the highest quality New Zealand leathers that can be sourced.

Whilst their manufacturing process has developed to account for the demand, the love they have for their product and brand will always remain at the forefront of what they do. For further information please visit the website at http://www.deadlyponies.com .
