Thanks in part to the popularity of blogging, vlogging, gramming, tweeting and Facebooking our every move, many people don’t leave home for overseas without our phones, tablets, laptops, video or camera equipment. These devices are almost an extension of ourselves. They don’t just keep us connected to our friends and family back home, they can also enable us to keep a record of prized travel memories. However, some of us don’t stop to consider what will happen if this technology is lost or stolen while travelling and we may not  budget for these unforeseen expenses.

Worldcare’s travel insurance* covers your luggage, personal effects and electronic equipment. The maximum level of cover for electronic equipment on the GoComprehensive plan is NZD $2,500 and the less expensive option, GoBudget is NZD $500. Worldcare’s GoComprehensive policy holders can also specify their most valuable additional electronic items for an additional premium, up to a limit of NZ$10,000 per item and NZ$20,000 for all specified items.

Unfortunately lost or stolen memories can’t be replaced, so Worldcare recommends backing up your content as you go. There are many devices or cloud options available to support you with this, and people who love to share can also choose to utilise their preferred social media network as a form of back up in itself.

Worldcare also recommends that people buy their travel insurance early enough to cover the unexpected. Whilst your holiday may not be happening for months and you may not think that you need cover for something so far away, Worldcare’s GoComprehensive travel insurance policies commence their cover from the date of purchase, not the date of departure. As the Worldcare website explains, “If following full payment of your trip, you had to cancel or amend your travel arrangements, due to any unforeseeable circumstance beyond your control, we will pay up to the policy option’s maximum benefit for your irrecoverable travel and accommodation expenses which have been paid in advance.”
