Argent Motor Lodge's Community Spirit

Argent motor lodge, Hamilton’s popular award-winning motel, is big on social giving in their local community.

“With the motel being so close to Waikato hospital,” says owner Graeme Hunt, “the theme with our social giving practices naturally revolves around health.”

Graeme says empathy is needed when dealing with guests who might be under pressure or feeling fragile if they’re trying to find their way around the hospital.

“Making sure our guests are looked after is obviously very important to us,” says Graeme, “so if there’s a way to help out other members of our community, we’re very happy to do that.”

This year Argent Motor Lodge supported Make-a-Wish, an organisation which gives children with life-threatening conditions the opportunity to make their one true wish come true.

Jordan Milligan, of the Make-a-Wish Foundation, says, “granting a child’s one true wish doesn’t happen overnight. It often takes months of planning and help from people and businesses across New Zealand.

“When 16 year old Joshua, from Denver, Colorado USA, wished to visit New Zealand and have an incredible Lord of the Rings experience we went looking for support around the Hamilton area.

“Make-A-Wish would like to thank the team at Argent Motor Lodge who provided us with free accommodation for not only Joshua but his entire family during his trip. Joshua had a fabulous time on his wish, and it is the support from businesses like Argent Motor Lodge that will allow us to continue granting children’s very special wishes just like Joshua’s. We look forward to turning more children’s dreams in to reality with them in the future.”

Argent Motor Lodge also supported the Cancer Society’s Relay for Life 2016, a charity which brings together members of the community to celebrate survivors of cancer, their caregivers, loved ones lost to cancer, and raise awareness and funds to support the work of Cancer Society.

Argent is also a longtime supporter of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
