Job ads for New Zealand Real Estate and Property jobs on SEEK have seen an increase of 18 percent between March 2015 and March 2016.

Employment opportunities in the Real Estate and Property sector are showing strong growth, with the average advertised salary for the sector sitting at $84,129.

SEEK General Manager Janet Faulding says population growth could also be contributing to a slight tightening in the supply of labour.

“We have seen strong growth over a sustained period for the Construction and Real Estate industries, which is being further fuelled by the strong population growth across the country,” says Ms Faulding.

Jono Ng, of Hamilton’s Lugton’s Real Estate, says this news is good for the industry as well as for anyone wanting to buy or sell their property.

“With the availability of more employment opportunities for Real Estate agents, there will be more competition,” says Jono.  “Buyers and sellers will have a better selection of agents to choose from.”

Janet Faulding agrees.  “With increasing demand for professionals in the real estate sectors,” she says, “the focus for employers will be on how to attract and retain the best people to remain competitive.

“Sectors within the economy are continuing to ride the wave of the strong property market, which is driving job opportunities across Design and Architecture, Construction, Real Estate and Property and Trades and Services,” says Ms Faulding.

However, Jono Ng has a word of caution for people to thinking of making a career change to Real Estate.

“People might think being a Real Estate agent is a glamorous career - or an easy way to make money.

“It is a great career,” says Jono, “but it takes a certain person, the right training and hard work to be successful in this industry.”
