Motus Hydraulics, the company that has supplied New Zealand industry with custom and off-the-shelf hydraulic cylinders for more than 50 years introduces its MAX series of hydraulic rams to the engineering, transport, marine and mining industries.

Steady demand from customers for a heavy duty off-the-shelf ram led Motus to develop the MAX series. The result of 11 years of research, development and trials, MAX rams have been designed and engineered by a specialist team using the strongest, most reliable materials and components.

MAX rams are built tough, designed to withstand continuous pressure of 4000psi, making them the perfect ram for heavy industrial applications, particularly the internal and external pressures involved in excavator thumbs.  The range of MAX rams includes sizing from 2.5” to 6” bore and all feature heavy wall tubing that provides protection from dents and scrapes, whilst withstanding high working pressures.  The unique positive lock system secures and retains the piston, ensuring it remains tight for the life of the ram.   High quality Hallite wear rings and seals are factory rated to 7500psi, providing unsurpassed static load holding capacity and seal.

“We have always been known for our hydraulic rams designed for the agricultural industry and over the years, we’ve developed a deep understanding of hydraulic equipment applications in other industries.  The MAX ram series was the perfect extension to our existing range,” says Motus’ sales and marketing manager Craig Kelly.

“We have devoted years to creating these rams that won’t break when under enormous pressure on large-scale machinery - they’re built to last.   Producing our own range of MAX rams means customers who may have traditionally made rams themselves, are now able to buy an off-the-shelf solution.   Valuable production time and staff resources are saved.”

A key component in the development of the MAX series rams included FEA (Finite Element Analysis) testing and physical testing, which has resulted in a 6-1 safety factor (the  MaxFactor™), for peace of mind.

“Using rams of this quality means equipment downtime is minimal, saving money and time.  This is good news for all businesses, particularly those who run a fleet of heavier machinery,” adds Craig.

Established in 1963, Motus (previously Hustler) is a Hawke’s Bay based business specialising in the manufacture of hydraulic cylinders.  With design and production on site, orders are processed and dispatched quickly.  “We are committed to meeting our customers’ needs and keep businesses running as efficiently as possible."
