This month Auckland’s Stardome have a Star Wars event on May the 4th, where they invite customers to see a special Night Sky show  (with Star Wars astronomy elements included) for free, if they dress up as their favourite Star Wars character. For more information on the Star Wars event please visit the website at http://stardome.org.nz/events/may-the-fourth-at-stardome/  . There will be three planetarium shows especially to celebrate the galactic empire, and everyone is welcome, even if they’ve gone to The Dark Side.

Also in May is Mother's Day, where Mums and Grandmothers get in for free with a paying person at a special Stardome Mother’s Day event. As they say at Stardome, “We love our Mums as much as we love the stars, so on Mother’s Day all Mums get in free”!

Sons and daughters can show their Mum that she means the world to them by bringing her along to Stardome where she can relax in the reclining seats and gaze up at the 360-degree dome and watch a Planetarium film. Or they can bring her along to The Autumn Night Sky show where she’ll enjoy a tour of the stars and constellations visible in the skies above, a fabulous Mother’s Day treat.

This event is on Sunday 8 May for one free mother per paying person, and they can choose from the following Planetarium shows. 1pm, Tycho to the Moon, 2pm, Perfect Little Planet, 3pm, Dinosaurs at Dusk, 4pm, Wildest Weather in the Solar System, 6pm, Black Holes, 7pm, From Earth to the Universe and 8pm, The Autumn Night Sky.

Stardome and its team have been sharing a love of space from its premises in Auckland’s One Tree Hill Domain since 1967.  A place of exploration, research and sharing of knowledge Stardome has been regularly open for public viewing evenings and daytime visits for school trips ever since. If you went to school in Auckland or the surrounding area you probably remember your first trip to Stardome as a kid.  In 1997, New Zealand’s first and still largest Planetarium theatre was constructed and opened on the site.
