Christchurch played host to a celebration of the South Island’s food and beverage industry, when national intellectual property specialists James & Wells collaborated with the New Zealand Institute of Food Science and Technology, and FoodSouth to showcase innovative Kiwi brands.

Hosted in the city’s ilex Botanic Gardens, the menu was a celebration of New Zealand’s F&B brands, calling on the sectors leaders and up-and-comers to star in the seven course canapé degustation. Hellers, Meadow Mushrooms, ANZCO, Uncle Joe’s Marlborough, Bennetto Natural Foods, Barrys Bay Cheese, Sambal of the Gods, Retro Organics and Genevieve’s Cuisine were each showcased in their respective courses, paired with a matching wine.

Peter Brown, Head of James & Wells’ Food and Beverage Innovation team, said the event was a chance to bring together a diverse group of people to share and celebrate their experiences. Guests were able to continue the foodie experience at home, taking away goody bags filled with products from Hellers, Harrington’s Breweries, Aroha Drinks, Bennetto Natural Foods and Uncle Joe’s Marlborough.

Jonathan Cox, NZIFST Vice-President and Commercialisation Manager for ANZCO, said it was a great event celebrating the quality and innovation of Canterbury food businesses. "It also brought together a range of people with diverse backgrounds which can only help generate new ideas and innovation for the region.  NZIFST look forward to supporting the event again in the future."

FoodSouth’s Chief Executive John Morgan says FoodSouth were pleased to support the JAWS Bites degustation. “It shows how Kiwis can create high quality, valuable foods for domestic and international consumers.  The event provided the opportunity for some excellent conversations, helping to further fuel activities in this sector. FoodSouth were proud to help recognise the achievements of these firms, and encourage the industry to continue to innovate and grow. We stand ready to help.”
