On 1 April this year Bartercard launched an exciting new software platform – bucqi, a national rewards programme designed for small to medium sized businesses as a way to reward their customers; it’s set to revolutionise the way consumers, clubs, charities and businesses interact.  Billed as the ‘app that gives you more bang for your bucqi’, bucqi isn’t like other reward points schemes.  Instead, it allows people to earn dollar-for-dollar rewards, and spend them without the need for working out how many points are required to generate a purchase.

bucqi was launched in Wellington but it is anticipated that bucqi will be rolled out to other regions later in the year. Developed by BPS Technology, which owns Bartercard - the world’s largest listed Global Trade exchange - bucqi has already enjoyed much success in Queensland, Australia since its launch in December 2015. Bartercard NZ CEO, John Scott says the platform was developed to connect Bartercard members to everyday consumers: “For consumers, bucqi offers an entirely new way to shop. Each time you pay with bucqi, you earn ‘bucqs’ which can then be used dollar-for-dollar on your next purchase.

“We chose Wellington as the location for the New Zealand launch because of its high number of tech-savvy consumers, compact central city and large number of Bartercard merchants.” says Scott.  “To have names such as the Wellington Lions and Hurricanes supporting the launch is a tremendous boost to everyone that is involved, and demonstrates a belief of its anticipated early success.”  With over 50 outlets already on board within the Wellington CBD and a further 6,000 Bartercard businesses nationwide, it’s not just the big names that will benefit.  What’s more, the opportunities are expected to grow over the coming months as more and more businesses want to come on board.

One of Bartercard’s chosen charities, The Child Cancer Foundation, is thrilled to be a part of the initiative as Michelle Berriman, Business Development Manager for The Child Cancer Foundation, Wellington explains: “As the chosen charity for the Bartercard Foundation, the Child Cancer Foundation is very grateful for its ongoing support and the chance to be part of this exciting new project.  It is a great opportunity for our supporters to raise funds simply by spending on things they purchase regularly; earning rewards for themselves while 1% of their spend through bucqi, goes towards supporting children with cancer and their families.  It’s a fantastic initiative!”
