Hamilton Hairdresser Ashley cook of The Engine Room places second at the WARH competition.

It was strong rivalry at the recent Waikato Association of Registered Hairdressers (WARH) competition but Ashley cook of Hamilton-based The Engine Room came out on top in her category of Cut in which she had to execute a haircut with technical excellence.

 

“To be honest I didn’t know what to feel at the time. Now that it has been a few days later the feeling is awesome,” says Ashley in reflecting on her win.

 

“We couldn’t be more proud of Ashley. She does  a fantastic job in the salon and this award is proof of the high quality of work that she does,” says Kaleb Phillippe, owner of The Engine Room.

 

Facing off against the best hairdressers in the Waikato is no easy feat but due to her high level of skill and creativity.

With three years of hairdressing under her belt, Ashley went with a gothic punk rock theme which was met by praise from the judges.

 

For Ashley hairdressing was in her blood. “I come from a family of hairdresers, my mother and grandmother were both a hairdresser. That is what made me want to become a hairdresser,” adds Ashley.  Having worked for the second best hair dresser in Melbourne, Ashley brings international experience to the popular salon on Victoria Street.
