New Zealand is home to some of the best snow sport experiences and its reliable snow and geographic features make it one of the best ski destinations in the world. Add to this New Zealand's stunning scenery, lively resorts such as Queenstown and Wanaka, and visitors are in for a truly unique winter holiday experience. We are now fully into the Southern Hemisphere winter which is the perfect time to book a trip to the snow, and the Heli Tours team are ready and waiting with their range of heli trips to the snow and glaciers, ruling the skies over Queenstown.

Every year from early June onwards, the region transforms with snow covered mountains, green valleys and clear, blue days, attracting snow-sport enthusiasts from around the world to enjoy easy access to some of New Zealand's finest skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing, and vibrant après ski scene, and Heli Tours are there to transfer them up into the snow at Cardrona and Treble Cone.

Snow sports aren’t for everyone so the Heli Tours guys have a range of options for off-piste adventures, starting with their Alpine Snow Landing heli-trip, departing from Queenstown into an alpine environment with a Heli Tours’ experienced pilot. This scenic flight is perfect for awesome photo opportunities, with views of Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown and surrounding mountains, and gives visitors the chance to touch and feel snow, maybe for the first time, including some family fun time with a snowball fight!

Heli Tours also have their Queenstown Arrival Flight, a 20 minute scenic flight over Lake Wakatipu, flying alongside the Remarkables Mountains before experiencing an Alpine Landing with spectacular sights of  Queenstown, Arrowtown, Jack’s Point and Lake Hayes. Similarly, their Glacier, ‘Rivers of Ice’ flight is one hour in duration, taking in spectacular views of the braided Rees and Dart Rivers, Mt Earnslaw and many magnificent glaciers. These deep blue “Rivers of Ice” create an amazing photo opportunity and visitors return home raving about the amazing experience they have had flying over these magnificent glaciers in a Heli Tours helicopter.

Another Heli Tours winter flight is their Glacier Direct flight out of Queenstown, through the Richardson Mountains towards the head of Lake Wakatipu and Glenorchy where visitors can enjoy a glacier landing offering spectacular views of Lake Wakatipu, Glenorchy, Mt Aspiring National Park and the braided Rees and Dart River valleys. Upon departure they fly over Pig and Pigeon islands and over Moke Lake before landing back at Queenstown airport.
