The 2016 Polaris New Zealand Offroad Racing Championship returns to the rocky tracks along the banks of the Waimakariri River next month for a southern showdown.

With two rounds complete, Christchurch drivers are dominant in many classes and looking to make the most of their last chance to score points before Labour Weekend’s final round at Twizel.

Christchurch racer Wayne Moriarty goes into the final southern round of the championship with a clear but not commanding points lead and facing a strong challenge from fellow Christchurch racer Ron Crosby in his production class Mitsubishi Pajero.

After two rounds, Moriarty has amassed 137 of a possible 144 points, with Crosby less than ten points adrift on 128.

Brad Harvey and Bryan Chang share third overall on 126 points, Harvey in his Challenger single-seater and Chang running the GT Radials Ford Falcon Turbo.

The event is a one-day endurance race on Saturday August 6. It will run to 13 laps over a distance of 260 kilometres with a scheduled start time of 10.30 am and uses tracks in the same area as the slightly shorter enduro run as day two of the previous southern round, the Mainland Challenge. Entry forms are at www.oranz.co.nz
