Parking Sense USA, a subsidiary of Cambridge-based Parking Sense, has won a major contract with Los Angeles County Metroplitan Transportation Authority  (LA Metro)  to supply 21,000 parking spaces across Los Angeles.

After a formal RFP process including thorough due diligence they were selected from the final three contenders and beat out strong competition from their major rivals to secure one of the largest parking contracts ever awarded in California. It’s one of the largest contracts of its kind to be awarded in the US.

“This is a very important win for us,” says Parking Sense Managing Director Paul Collins.

“It’s the result of all the ground work our US team has put in over the last 12 months, plus it confirms the strength of our product and overall offering. A combination of leading edge technology and competitive pricing, along with the exciting innovations we are planning, were key ingredients in the win. Our service delivery, focus on a smooth operation and accuracy were also big factors.”

The City of Los Angeles is one of the most densely populated metropolitan areas in the world and the second largest in the United States.  Since opening its first parking lot in 1917, Los Angeles County now dedicates roughly 14 percent of land exclusively to parking.

Parking Sense will be installing their  EasyGuide single space guidance system across the city. The deal will cover the current free parking spaces and  help provide a more efficient driving and parking experience throughout the city. “Getting drivers to parking spaces more quickly is one of the keys to a well-functioning city,” says Collins. “A big focus of our product development has this outcome in mind.”

Parking Sense USA CEO, Jake Bezzant says the deal is likely to bring further opportunities for Parking Sense in partnership with LA Metro, but remains very focused on getting the next stage right. “The team’s priority is to deliver on this contract, get the basics right and other opportunities should follow. As part of this contract we will also be releasing our new APP, ParkUp, which is set to revolutionise the way consumers choose and pay for their parking spaces. So watch this space!”

Securing the LA Metro contract is a key milestone for Parking Sense and follows a number of other wins including CBRE Galleria, University of Washington and the Walter Reid National Military Medical Centre. They have also just completed successful trade shows in Amsterdam in April and Nashville in May. “It’s fair to say we’ve attracted significant interest from round the world,” says Collins. “We were very encouraged by the number of visitors we had to our site in both Amsterdam and Nashville, so it says we are getting the formula right.”
